Description:This Sussex Wildlife Trust reserve has woodlands and meadows that attract a wide range of butterfly species.
Species:Target species include Silver-washed Fritillary, White Admiral, Purple Emperor, Brown Hairstreak and Purple Hairstreak.
Best time to visit:For the target species listed, visit the last week in June, the whole of July and the first two weeks of August.
Additional notes:In the woods to the west of the reserve’s large pond you can find White Admiral and Silver-washed Fritillary, at TQ217136. Check the Oaks for Purple Emperors. The meadows to the east of the pond support grassland species such as Brown Argus and Marbled White. Explore the south-facing Blackthorn hedge running between the meadows for Brown Hairstreaks.
