Description:This is a Local Nature Reserve, which has an impressive list of wildflowers, including many uncommon orchids. The butterfly list is also impressive and in recent years this chalk grassland site has been colonised by a substantial population of Duke of Burgundy.
Species:Target species include Dingy Skipper, Grizzled Skipper, Essex Skipper, Duke of Burgundy, Marbled White, Silver-washed Fritillary, and Dark Green Fritillary.
Best time to visit:All-season-long but May can be specially good for spring skippers and Duke of Burgundy.
Additional notes:Adjacent to the A29 it is a site that is very easy to access. If you enjoy butterflies and wildflowers, then any visit during the spring and summer months is likely to be well rewarded.
Getting there:It is located south of the A29 between the Fontwell and Whiteways roundabouts. Parking is available in the layby at the bottom of the reserve at SU983091.
