To make up for my Grayling disappointment at Deep Dean (although I did see plenty of them and a Scotch Argus at Arnside Knott a couple of weeks ago) I decided to visit Whitehawk Hill to try and get my 52nd species of the year. The end result was my best ever Long-tailed Blue day with 17 sightings in less than an hour. 3 were having a dog-fight and, judging by the various states of the individuals that I saw I would estimate at least 6 different individuals were present. The majority were very tatty but I imagine there will be a fresh brood in a few weeks time. They were favouring thistle down although I did see a couple on the everlasting pea flowers. It was a shame that I didn't take my good camera but I managed a reasonable image of one of the fresher ones.
