This is an astonishing record, for all sorts of reasons! The last sighting of White Admiral, in Sussex, was on July 4th. That's 36 days ago. I'm sure this is a second brood individual. Second brood White Admirals are not common in this county, and we would not expect to see one until around mid-September (very occasionally early September). To see one on August 9th is quite ridiculous!!! Well done, Martin, for this amazing record. This year we had a National First on May 30th, which I suspect was yet another county record. Climate change, and this year, in particular, with five heatwaves, is creating all sorts of conditions for records, to tumble. In Sussex, we have many very talented butterfly enthusiasts, and we do live in a very blessed county, so please do look out for these extraordinary events.  Martin K
