I got up to Chantry Hill this by about 10ish after and early morning trip to the allotment. I had only just emerged from the woodland edge onto the chalk grassland when I was very surprised to see a Fresh looking Duke of Burgundy. I wasn't aware that this species sometimes does a partial second brood, but was pleased to find it in area where the Storrington Conservation Society had been working in the winter to keep the habitat in good condition. I saw 23 Silver-spotted Skippers in the Western Combe and 6 Clouded Yellow were another highlight. I failed to locate the Duke again on my way back down the Hill.

The Duke of Burgundy is an amazing record, Tom. I stand to be corrected but I think that may be the first-ever second brood Duke of Burgundy recorded in Sussex.  Martin K
