Lancing Ring and Steep Down were sunny, warm and breezy. Twenty one butterfly species included 27 Wall (at least 6 female). 23 Peacock, 15 Red Admiral, 8 Painted Lady, 6 Small Copper, 6 Holly Blue, 5 Comma, 4 Small Heath, 4 Speckled Wood, 4 Brimstone, Common Blue. Seen but not counted were Large Skipper, Small Skipper, Essex Skipper, Gatekeeper, Marbled White, Meadow Brown, Ringlet, Green-veined White, Large White, Small White. 4 Humming-bird Hawk-moth, including 2 laying eggs on Hedge Bedstraw.
